Market caught off guard by IJM's entry into Scomi Group

IJM Corp Bhd's entry into Scomi Group Bhd did take the market by surprise, but this is not the first time the construction giant has entered into so called strategic acquisitions.

In the past, IJM had not been shy to embark on merger and acquisitions (M&As) that helped chart its growth story. In 2007, IJM embarked on an M&A that also surprised the market then - it acquired Road Builder, which paved the way for IJM to get into the highway concession business in Malaysia, as Road Builder Holdings Bhd owned two highway concessions and two ports.
