VEGOILS-Market factors to watch Sept 20

KUALA LUMPUR: The following factors are likely to influence Malaysian palm oil futures and other vegetable oil markets on Thursday.

FUNDAMENTALS

* Malaysian palm oil futures closed slightly lower on Wednesday, as last-minute selling on better-than-expected soybean yields in the United States offset gains boosted by expectations of strong export data.

* U.S. soybeans rose nearly 2 percent on Wednesday after their biggest two-day selloff in seven weeks, and corn and wheat also climbed on buying interest at lower prices.

* Oil prices slumped on Wednesday as Saudi efforts to tame prices and a massive rise in U.S. crude inventories after Hurricane Isaac fuelled a third day of heavy fund liquidation, one of the biggest sell-offs in more than a year.

MARKET NEWS

* Asian shares fell on Thursday as investors awaited manufacturing data from China later in the session for clues about whether Beijing would be prompted to take more stimulus action in the world's second-biggest economy.

* Commodity markets ended mixed on Wednesday with oil prices dragging, despite some positive U.S. data and a buoyant stock market.
