Consumer price index up 3%

PETALING JAYA: The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 3% to 102.5 for the six months ended June compared with 99.5 in the same period last year. As for the month of June, the CPI registered an increase of 3.5% to 103.2 from 99.7 a year earlier.

The index for food & non-alcoholic beverages and non-food for the month of June showed increases of 4.7% and 3% respectively as compared with the same month in 2010. The same index increased by 4.5% and 2.4% respectively in January-June period.

The higher CPI was due to increases observed in the indices of all the main groups except those of clothing & footwear and communication.
