PETALING JAYA: Masterskill Education Group Bhd (MEGB), which has won its defamation suit against Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd (STMB) for a total of RM250,000, is appealing to the High Court for the damages to be raised to RM100mil.

The education group, in its filing to Bursa Malaysia yesterday, said it had instructed its solicitors to file “a cross appeal on the quantum of damages awarded in order to enhance and increase the quantum to RM100mil”.

At the same time, MEGB also received a notice from STMB's solicitors of its intention to appeal the decision made of the High Court on Apr 28.

The High Court, on April 28, decided that STMB was liable for defamation and awarded damages of RM200,000 and costs of RM50,000 to MEGB.

In its filing to Bursa, MEGB said its defamation suit against STMB was over visuals of the former's college in a TV3 news report about 60 colleges that had been deregistered.

MEGB said the visuals of the 60 colleges that had been deregistered had nothing to do with the Masterskill group.   MEGB :  [Stock Watch]  [News]
