Thursday was world anti-corruption day

UNITED NATIONS: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon urged business leaders worldwide Thursday to denounce corruption and adopt strict prohibitions against the scourge, which is threatening development, democracy and stability.

His call on International Anti-Corruption Day was echoed by U.S. Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer who cited World Bank estimates that more than $1 trillion in bribes are paid worldwide each year, "leading to what some experts estimate amounts to a 20 percent tax on foreign investment."
