Standards convergence on track

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia is on track to achieve full convergence of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) by Jan 1, 2012, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

“The IFRS convergence effort in Malaysia, which is predominantly driven by the country’s accountancy professionals, is right on track. By this date (Jan 1, 2012) our accounting standards will be comparable to those in more than 100 other countries,” he said in his speech at the opening ceremony of the 18th World Congress of Accountants 2010 themed Accountants: Sustaining Value Creation yesterday.
