The dilemma of a compromise

IT all began (or re-began) just before the start of Ramadan at a dinner hosted by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin for the country’s independent power producers (IPPs).

The dinner’s main agenda – to get the corporate stalwarts to warm up to the idea that the Government, this time more than ever, is serious about wanting IPPs to make some concessions on what’s remaining of their power concessions that were inked 17 years ago, which has seriously shaken the financial equilibrium of the country’s energy sector. The incentive – their concessions that are due to expire in 2014/2015 may be extended.
