BEIJING: Some Chinese banks have been illicitly offering savers free travel, paying their children’s school fees and even finding jobs for relatives to attract deposits, the banking regulator said yesterday.
The China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) vowed to punish errant banks, its latest move to assert control over a sector that has been trying to work around strict government rules in the pursuit of profit.
