Time to boost Malaysia’s tropical fruit exports


WHILE the Government is focusing on replacing tobacco with new income-generating crops like Jatropha and Kenaf, it is sad to note that local tropical fruits with high export potential have not been given equal attention.

To date, 10 local fruits – starfruit, dragon fruit, pineapple, rambutan, durian, pomelo, papaya, mango, mangosteen, jack fruit and guava – have been identified as the new export earner for Malaysia.
