TORONTO will on June 26-27 host the next summit of the G20, which is billed as the world’s premier economic forum. Representing the world’s 20 leading industrialised and emerging economies, and accounting for 90% of the world’s gross domestic product, the G20 is a more representative and inclusive global steering committee than the Group of Eight (G8).
Thanks to the G20, China, India, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Turkey, Indonesia and South Africa have now been afforded a formal voice. Representing over two-thirds of the world’s population, the forum is imbued with significant legitimacy.
