KOTA KINABALU: Maxis Bhd, Malaysia’s leading communications provider, will build over 180 new sites in Sabah for better network coverage this year. This will add on to the RM24mil spent on improving the network in the state last year.

Maxis chief marketing officer Matthew Willsher said this year alone, Maxis would extend 3G coverage in major towns such as Kota Kinabalu, Labuan and Sandakan.

Last year, the coverage was extended to remote areas such as Keningau, Tenom, Sipitang, Kinabatangan, Sukau, Felda (Sahabat), Pitas, Kota Marudu and Kota Belud to serve rural communities better.

Maxis also enhanced network coverage in the interiors of Nabawan, Sook and Sapulut.

“Maxis will continue to enrich is customers’ lives with an improved network in Sabah. In supporting the national vision of bridging communities, we are enhancing coverage not only in major towns but also in secondary towns and remote sites within oil palm plantations,” he told reporters at a media appreciation luncheon yesterday.

“We are grateful that the state government has been supportive of our network expansion programme and we look forward to working with them again for the benefit of the community here.”

Willsher said Maxis saw a steady increase of customers in the state last year.

“We established two new customer service centres in Sandakan and Tawau. We also embarked on an ‘out of store’ approach to reach out to customers using Maxis mobile booths, Hotlink Store-On-Wheels and mobile vans,” he said.

It also intends to improve customer service experience by enhancing the postpaid customer experience with the setting up of more Maxis Exclusive partners and mobile kiosks. - Bernama

“We are going to improve the accessibility and convenience of prepaid top-up with the doubling up of our current top-up points.”

In 2009, Maxis rewarded its customers in Sabah with customised products and promotions to provide more value such as the East Malaysia Plan, Super Saver Plan, Value First Plan and Value Plus Family Handset Plan, all specially packaged for the benefit of Maxis customers.

It also celebrated major festivals in Sabah by rewarding customers with special festive call rates during Kaamatan, Malaysia Day, Ramadan month and Hari Raya Puasa. - Bernama
