WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama ended an extraordinary live-on-TV summit on health care overhaul Thursday with the bleak assessment that accord between Democrats and Republicans on his top domestic priority may not be possible.
He rejected Republican preferences for starting from scratch, discussing the issue much longer or taking a step-by-step solution, and instead suggested that Democrats will try to pass a sweeping overhaul without Republican support.
