NOTHING in life is certain, except (as the cliché goes) for death and taxes. So, as far as the global economy is concerned, although a recovery by the end of this year is much anticipated, there are still risks that could turn the situation around.
As it is, the global economic conditions are still fragile. The emergence of some red flags in recent weeks such as the persistently high unemployment rates in some key economies like the United States says it all. Make no mistake, unemployment could dampen consumer spending, and worsen the downward spiral of an economy.
