HONG KONG: Hong Kong is to launch a public consultation this year on establishing a financial ombudsman as the global financial crisis has highlighted the need to improve management of the financial system, the government said on Saturday.
Financial Services Secretary K.C. Chan told a radio talk show that the proposed post would handle complaints and mediation work related to the financial industry. That suggests it would not have disciplinary powers, which will disappoint some lawmakers.
