ACCOLADES must be given to the Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme (MTCS), which has steadfastly provided independent assessments of forest management practices to ensure exports of local timber products are sourced from sustainably managed forests.
Early this month, MTCS, operated by the Malaysian Timber Certification Council (MTCC), adds another feather to its cap as the first tropical timber certification scheme in Asia Pacific and the second in the world to be endorsed by the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC).
