Effective enforcement

StarBizWeek: Don’t you think in a developing market, there is a need to ensure that there is punishment when laws are broken? Are you happy with the level of enforcement as it is?

Zarinah: We enforce our laws strictly. We conduct intensive supervision, monitoring and surveillance and will take enforcement actions in cases where there is a breach of the securities laws. The jurisdiction of the SC is fairly limited though. When other laws are breached, the other regulators will be responsible for enforcing the laws within their jurisdiction.
