IN November 2008, China’s exports registered the first year-on-year contraction since June 2001. With the purchasing manager survey showing export orders having fallen, the contraction in export growth is expected to last well into 2009 (see chart).
In response to this development, the Chinese government is expected to introduce measures to boost exports.
