BOSTON: Oracle Corp, the world’s No. 3 software maker, posted stronger-than-expected quarterly profit as operating margins hit their highest level ever during the period.

The company also reported a 14% rise in sales of new software licences and on Thursday gave an outlook for the current quarter that matched expectations, reassuring investors who had feared the weak economy would cause Oracle to miss.
