New appointments at Star Publications


KUALA LUMPUR: Star Publications (M) Bhd has announced the appointment of Datuk Steven Tan Kok Hiang as executive Deputy Chairman/Senior Advisor with effect from August.

This follows his decision to retire as Group Managing Director/CEO on June 30, after some three years of succession planning.

Tan, who has helmed the media group for more than 22 years, has seen to its expansion to the forefront of the local media scene, including its listing on Bursa Malaysia in 1995.

Tan thanked readers and advertisers, advertising agencies and media specialists, vendors and agents, suppliers, industry colleagues, shareholders, directors and his colleagues for their support through the years.

Tan, who turns 60 next year, said his retirement as Group Managing Director/CEO would pave the way for a younger team to take the media group to new heights.

He is succeeded by Datin Linda Ngiam, the current Executive Director and Group Chief Operating Officer.

The Star media group comprises the flagship newspapers, The Star Online, three radio stations, mStar Online, Global Malaysian Network and some magazines.

Among others, Tan will continue to chair Star Foundation, Asian Centre for Media Studies (ACMS), Excel Education (Australia) Pty Ltd as well as serve on the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman Council & LLL-LifeLong Learning Network Sdn Bhd.
