SINGAPORE: The city-state’s economy powered to a better-than-expected expansion of 7.2% in the first quarter but a spike in inflation prompted authorities to tighten monetary policy yesterday.
Economists warned that the high growth would likely taper off with the US facing recession and the world economy forecast to slow, which could curb demand for Asian exports in rich nations.
