KUALA LUMPUR: International aluminium producer Rio Tinto Alcan and public-listed Cahya Mata Sarawak’s proposed US$2bil world class aluminium smelter project at Similajau near Bintulu is set to play a significant role as a catalyst for regional development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score).
Owned by Salco – a joint venture between Rio Tinta and Cahya Mata Sarawak – the smelter project is expected to contribute up to RM2.4bil annually to Malaysia’s gross domestic product.
