Bank Negara to have more recipients for talent scheme

KUALA LUMPUR: Bank Negara hopes to increase the number of award recipients for its Financial Sector Talent Enrichment Programme (FSTEP) in the next intake at year-end.

During a press tour of the FSTEP centre on Tuesday, programme head Juliana Othman Said said 300 to 360 recipients were targeted for the scholarship worth RM2,200 per month for the year-long programme.

FSTEP short-listed 297 candidates from the 2,900 applicants for its pioneer intake that commenced in December, she said, adding that recipients must meet the minimum criteria of achieving GPA of 3.25 and above in their first degree.

According to Juliana, the selected candidates consist of local graduates across all disciplines. She added that non-bumiputras made up 10% to 15% of the number.

“We would like to prepare this group by giving them a chance to engage with prominent financial industry leaders and provide on-the-job training as part of our plans to supply high powered talent in the financial services industry,” she said.

The programme offers training in four aspects – commercial banking, investment banking, Islamic banking and takaful insurance.
