European stocks end lower led by banks and automakers

LONDON (AP) - Banks and automakers ranked among the biggest decliners in Europe on Wednesday, as equity markets traded broadly lower. 

Shares of Northern Rock were notably weak, skidding 5.3 percent after Lehman Brothers lowered its rating on the U.K. mortgage lender, while French carmaker Peugeot extended losses in the wake of a poorly received strategy presentation, down 3.9 percent.
