European markets end higher

LONDON (AP) - European shares ended higher Monday, led by sharp gains by mining and metals companies, after the Federal Reserve's move late last week to cut the U.S. discount lending rate soothed fears that lending will dry up and depress global growth.

The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index gained 0.2 percent to 6,078.70, the German DAX 30 index added 0.4 percent to 7,407.53 and France's CAC-40 index rose 0.7 percent at 5,399.38.
