Banks mark Merdeka with 50 partial scholarships


PETALING JAYA: The Association of Banks Malaysia (ABM) and its members have pledged 50 scholarships worth RM10,000 (US$2,857)each to Malaysian students in their final year of tertiary education. 

ABM executive director Wong Suan Lye said in a statement that the ABM 50th Merdeka Scholarship was the way for banks to contribute to celebrating the nation's 50th anniversary. 

The statement added that preference would be given to deserving students from lower income families and that students were encouraged to apply directly with the association’s member banks before Aug 30. 

Other criteria include the student having a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher and currently not receiving financial aid or rewards from any organisation.
