Bidding group buys ABN Amro shares

AMSTERDAM: Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc, Fortis and Banco Santander SA may buy more shares in ABN Amro Holding NV after increasing their stake to 3.25% of voting rights since Aug 10. 

The group, which has offered 72 billion euros (US$98bil) to acquire the Amsterdam-based bank, bought a total 40.76 million ABN Amro shares at an average price of 33.81 euros yesterday and on Aug 10, the group said in a statement yesterday. That amounts to 1.38 billion worth of shares.
