MIRI: The multibillion-ringgit Iskandar Development Region project in southern Johor is stirring keen interest among the powerful players in Sarawak's investment and business arena.

Industrialists and commercial entreprenuers from this state are very interested in the Johor project as they feel there are vast opportunities to be tapped that can benefit both states, said Sarawak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Datuk Sim Hock Guan.

"This Iskandar Development project in Johor may open up huge opportunities for intensive and large-scale joint ventures between industrialists and business folks in Johor and Sarawak.

"It would also offer many direct investment opportunities for Sarawakians, opportunities for Sarawakians to supply building materials, food and also raw materials like timber for the projects that would be implemented within the Iskandar development zone.

"We (his chamber) want to examine in detail the blueprint of the Iskandar development project to see what are the areas we can partake in. I will be visiting Johor soon to have a closer look and to meet with those handling the project there," he said when interviewed Monday.

Sim said his chamber would liaise with the Associated Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Malaysia (ACCIM) to discuss potential investments plans in the southern Johor project.
