KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) is aiming for its customers to double their annual debit-card spending to between RM800mil and RM1bil in the next 12 to 18 months, executive vice-president Ashraf Ali Abdul Kadir said.
Ashraf, who is also the head of card business, said Maybank saw an average debit-card spending of only RM40mil a month, or less than RM500mil a year. Withdrawals from its automated teller machines (ATMs), on the other hand, averaged about RM6bil a month.
