KUALA LUMPUR: Expomal International Sdn Bhd, an exhibition and conference organiser, is planning for an annual open-day event to provide better guidelines for local traders participating in exhibitions.

Managing director Chan Luck Seh said the good turnout at yesterday's event inspired the company to make it an annual affair.

The event held at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre drew 1,000 traders.

Chan said the open day was mainly a get-together to meet existing and new exhibitors.

”We showcased the whole year's events and gave more information on how to participate,'' Chan said. “So far, we have received good response. There will be about 400 booths for each exhibition this year.”

Chan said six exhibitions would be held this year, two of which are new – Interiors Malaysia 2007 on June 21-23 and The 1st Malaysian International Language Exhibition on June 8-10.

The other four annual exhibitions are Smart Kids (Malaysia's Largest Kids Education Fair), Malaysia International Food and Beverage Trade Fair (MIFB), Global SMEs 2007 (International Strategic Partnership and Business Networking Trade Fair for small and medium-scale entrepreneurs) and Kuala Lumpur International Batik Convention and Exhibition.

Expomal expects Interiors Malaysia 2007 to attract 5,000 trade visitors.

“For other exhibitions, we are looking at a 10% increase in the number of visitors this year,” Chan said, adding that last year, Smart Kids drew 130,000 visitors, while MIFB and Global SMEs attracted 13,000 and 10,000 visitors respectively.

Chan also said Expomal had offices in GuangZhou, Beijing, Singapore and Vietnam to promote its events. “Our next target is India while Indonesia is another potential country,” he said.

Commenting on the exhibition, SLP Media Sdn Bhd executive director Kenny Chu described it as a good opportunity for the publishing company to tap the huge potential of the education sector.

Serba Wangi (KL) Sdn Bhd public relations manager P. Kamalanathan said the company started with one booth at the Smart Kids exhibition four years ago. “This year we will take up four booths to promote our new product ecoBrown rice,” he said.
