KUALA LUMPUR: Indian technopreneurs have been urged to form consortiums and bid for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) projects.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said there were many opportunities in the ICT sector that could be tapped by the Indian technopreneurs.

“Many of you may be operating your business on a smaller scale or fall under the small-and-medium-scale category, and may feel that you can't compete with the big boys.

"What I would suggest is that you form consortiums and bid for ICT projects,” he said at the launch of the Malaysian Indian ICT Conference 2007 here on Monday.

“The method has worked well for the small and medium range contractors in the infrastructure sector, and I'm sure it can work for you,” he said.

Samy Vellu, who is also Works Minister, said Indian technopreneurs should tap into government schemes and apply for assistance or support to start up their businesses.

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jamaludin Jarjis launched the conference, which was jointly organised by the MIC Business Bureau and the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC).
