KUCHING: Sarawak is setting up an information system on human resource development for school leavers.
It is aimed at helping them find opportunities for further education and training.
Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Department Fatimah Abdullah said the state government was concerned that school leavers, especially those in rural areas, would have difficulty obtaining information about furthering their studies after Form Five or Form Six.
"We have decided to assist these school leavers by providing information on institutions of higher learning and the courses they offer," she said when launching the system here on Tuesday.
Fatimah also said only 40 to 50 per cent of the state's Form Five and Form Six leavers were estimated to enter higher education each year.
"The rest would need help to enter non-academic training or vocational courses," she said.
As such, she urged school leavers and institutions of higher learning to register with the system through its website, www.infobooth.sarawak.gov.my.
"This will enable us to compile a database for long-term human resource planning and development in Sarawak.
"It will also give us a picture of educational or training needs among school leavers," she said.
She added that the system would include information on the courses and services available at institutions of higher learning in the country.
"We hope to create a directory so that school leavers can find out what courses are being offered by the various institutions," she said.
