WHILE the large plantation groups were well-researched and heavily bought by foreign fund managers, small plantation companies were ignored, partly due to a view that they were less efficient and lacked economies of scale.
With crude palm oil (CPO) prices that averaged RM1,760 a tonne in the September-December 2006 quarter (calendar Q4), CPO prices were far above break-even levels of even the small planters.
