LOS ANGELES: Walt Disney Co on Wednesday reported a surprisingly strong 39% rise in quarterly profit as Cars and The Chronicles of Narnia led to a turnaround at its film studio division.
While marketing for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest added to costs, the blockbuster is set to bring a windfall to Disney in the current quarter, having reaped nearly US$800mil in box office sales since it opened on July 7.
