Economist: Higher OPR likely in 2 months

KUALA LUMPUR: There is a good chance Bank Negara will raise overnight policy rates (OPR) by 50 basis points in the next two months to 4% in an effort to combat inflation, said Standard Chartered global markets economist Joseph Tan. 

Tan said while the central bank would not want to raise rates to the detriment of the economy, it would want to address inflationary issues as quickly as possible to avoid inflation building up too much.
