KUALA LUMPUR: The latest hike in interest rate by Bank Negara is not expected to dampen the economy, said governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz.

“I want to emphasise that this rising interest rate does not mean tightening of monetary policy. Interest rate is still below neutral level and, therefore, it should not be seen as contracting the economy,” she said after releasing the Labuan Offshore Financial Services Authority (Lofsa) 2005 annual report yesterday.
