KUALA LUMPUR: Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) expects to sign up between 25,000 and 30,000 new MasterCard holders over the next three months, following the launch of its Credit Cup Fever Contest yesterday.
Deputy president Agil Natt said the bank currently had more than one million credit cardholders, making it the country's second biggest credit card issuer.
The bank was working toward increasing its 15% share of the credit card market, he said, adding that “competition is very strong in this market.”
He said the bank would continue to launch more programmes to attract new customers and reward existing customers.
In his speech, Natt said the contest, which will run until May 22, was exclusively for Maybank MasterCard members.
Cardholders would be entitled to one entry for every retail transaction of RM50 in single or cumulative receipts using Maybank MasterCard.
The contest offers rewards totalling RM270,000 with the two grand prizes of an all expenses paid package to watch the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany worth more than RM40,000 each.
MasterCard International vice-president and senior country manager, Malaysia and Brunei, Jim Cheah said the FIFA World Cup delivered a powerful platform for building the brands of both Maybank and MasterCard.
The 2006 FIFA World Cup is a global sports event that is projected to have an estimated viewership of over seven billion across 170 countries.
Also present at the launch were contest partners Fuji Photo Film (M) Sdn Bhd, adidas (M) Sdn Bhd and Emirates Airlines.
