IPOH: Carotech Bhd will invest RM155mil in two plants in Chemor and Lumut Industrial Estate to increase its biodiesel output.
Managing director David Ho said the RM35mil plant in Chemor would be completed next month.
“With the Chemor plant, daily capacity will be increased from 45 tonnes to 90 tonnes,” he said after a visit by Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Kong Cho Ha yesterday.
As for the RM120mil Lumut plant, Ho said the company had just signed a sale and purchase agreement for the land.
“The plant is scheduled to be completed in a year,” he said, adding that the Lumut plant would have a daily capacity of 300 tonnes.
Ho also said Carotech would soon sign an agreement with Malaysian Palm Oil Board to test the effectiveness of tocotrienol (vitamin E), extracted from crude palm oil, in lowering cholesterol.
“The RM5mil agreement will involve 1,000 subjects testing the effectiveness of tocotrienol over three years,” he said.
