EDWARD Stanley Gibbons began trading stamps from a small desk in his fathers chemist shop in the British seaside town of Plymouth in 1856, 16 years after the worlds first postage stamp, the Penny Black, was issued.
That stamp, featuring a monochrome bust of Queen Victoria, is now worth thousands of pounds and Stanley Gibbons Group is a listed company on the London Stock Exchange.
