LONDON: European shares closed higher Wednesday amid brisk mergers-and-acquisitions activity. Market-sensitive resource stocks, insurance companies and utility firms reversed losses from the previous day.
Germany's DAX 30 index closed up 0.7 percent to 5,532, the French CAC 40 index added 0.6 percent to 4,890, after hitting a new four-and-a-half year high earlier in the day, while the U.K.'s FTSE 100 index climbed 0.75 percent to 5,731.
