PETALING JAYA: British American Tobacco (BAT) has appointed Bart Alkemade managing director of BAT Malaysia, effective March 1.

He would succeed Andrew Gray, who had been appointed president of Souza Cruz, the group's subsidiary in Brazil, BAT said in a statement.

Alkemade previously worked for BAT as general manager in Suriname.

He was also the area marketing manager for West Africa and global brand director, Dunhill, as well as area director, Far East North.

He had worked for Procter & Gamble for eight years in various brand and trade marketing functions prior to joining BAT.
