KUALA LUMPUR: NEC Systems Integration Malaysia Sdn Bhd (NEC SIM) is targeting the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), motor vehicle and government sectors to grow its mobile solutions business.
Chief operating officer Hong Kok Cheong said the company expected to see more business opportunities for its mobile solutions in the first half of the year as a result of strong marketing efforts over the past 18 months.
“Businesses are concerned about reducing costs and increasing productivity. Using mobile solutions is one way of doing that,” he told StarBiz.
Hong said the market for mobile solutions was still relatively new, as it only started to take off in the last four to five years.
In 2005, the bulk of NEC SIM’s business was driven by mobile solutions.
“We will continue to focus on the FMCG sector while looking at the motor vehicle and government sectors. We are in talks with some organisations,” he said.
He added that the company expected to win some tenders in the first half of this year.
NEC SIM’s mobile solutions enable businesses to automate tasks and processes such as order entry and inventory monitoring through the use of wi-fi or general packet radio service-enabled devices.
The company has, over the last three to five years, expanded its portfolio to include business solutions as it aspires to become a complete end-to-end solutions provider.
In the future, NEC SIM expects revenue contribution from business solutions and services to be higher compared with hardware.
Hong projected the company to record a compounded annual growth rate of 15% to 20% over the next three to five years.
