BANK Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd, which has just completed its integration exercise initiated in April, is focusing its efforts on developing the country's small- and medium-sized entrepreneurs (SMEs).

President and CEO Datuk Abdul Rahim Mohd Zin says apart from lending, the bank is exploring avenues to provide financing in the form of capital investment in the hope of addressing the issue of high gearing among the SMEs.

Wah Seong Corp Bhd CEO and managing director Chan Cheu Leong sees the group reaping the full benefits from its recent acquisitions next year, as it moves towards the deadline it has set for itself to become a major Asian oil and gas group by 2007.

Fujitsu (Malaysia) president & CEO Desmond Chan Tong Yap said the company was unlikely to invest in low-skilled labour-intensive business as it aspires to see more Malaysians trained, developed and nurtured to become experts in key IT areas.

“It is our strategy to see, in the near future, innovative Fujitsu products, be it software or hardware, designed and developed independently in Malaysia,'' he adds.
