BASEL, Switzerland: Swiss pharmaceutical Roche on Wednesday revealed a glimpse of the recipe and manufacturing process of antiviral medication Tamiflu, whose ingredients include a Chinese cooking spice and a harmless strain of E. coli bacteria.
Since experts believe Tamiflu - technically known as oseltamivir - would be the best defense in the initial phases of any global influenza pandemic, governments and companies have been stockpiling it because of fears about bird flu.
