CELCOM (M) Bhd aims to establish a stronger relationship with the youth market by partnering with the Malaysian Association of Colleges and Universities (MAPCU) through the Celcom-MAPCU Cash Rewards Programme.
With this collaboration, Celcom hopes to develop content for use on mobile phones targeted at youth and their lifestyles, its chief executive officer Datuk Mohammed Shazalli Ramly said.
He was speaking to reporters after an agreement signing ceremony between Celcom and MAPCU in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Shazalli signed on behalf of Celcom while MAPCU president Tengku Datuk Shamsul Bahrin represented the association.
“This programme will serve as a motivational tool for students by rewarding them with cash rewards towards their educational endeavours.
“With this collaboration, Celcom will also have the opportunity to further enrich the lives of students and to equip them for the mobile lifestyle,” Shazalli said.
Without giving too much away, Shazalli added that Celcom had expanded into the 3G services that allow video streaming and multimedia application.
“There are other relevant content based on the behaviour of students that we can further develop,” he said, adding that content across different genres such as entertainment, education and sports could be explored.
He did not discount the possibility of developing educational content with the expertise of educationists, giving trial exams on mobile phones as an example.
Shazalli said with the tie-up, the company hoped to educate students on the Celcom brand and perhaps improve their perception on the company.
Celcom will offer RM1.5mil in cash rewards for MAPCU students through this initiative. Presently, 50 educational institutions under MAPCU will be participating in this programme.
Top achievers from these institutions will be rewarded with cash incentive for their academic excellence and achievement in extra-curricular activities. Students who are Celcom subscribers will be eligible to participate in this programme.
Students will also enjoy special privileges such as workshops and events with professionals as well as exciting new rates and services through this programme.
