PROTON Holdings Bhd might shelve plans for a production plant in China as the national carmaker feels a potential tie-up with Germany's Volkswagen might provide a faster and more economical entry into the market.
Further, sources said, the cost of setting up stand-alone operations in China might be “too huge for Proton” despite the promise that the market holds for vehicle makers around the world.
