TM H1 net profit down 45%


MALAYSIA’S biggest telephone company, Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), reported a 45% drop in net profit for the first half ended June 30, 2005 to RM800mil from RM1.45bil a year ago due to intense competition and the lack of a one-off gain that it enjoyed a year earlier. 

Sales were marginally higher by 3.6% at RM6.7bil from RM6.5bil a year ago. Pre-tax profit also fell 39.5% to RM1bil from RM1.7bil. Earnings per share (EPS) dropped from 44.4 sen to 23.6 sen.
