IN the past weeks, several regional carriers such as Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines (SIA) have reported a drop in net earnings as a result of rising fuel prices and it would be no different for both Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Thai Airways International.
Thai Airways is expected to announce its latest financial results next week and MAS would release its numbers on Aug 23. A research house in a report said MAS would register a substantial loss of between RM100mil and RM200mil for the first quarter of its current financial year. That would be MAS' first quarterly loss since the airline's income was affected by the SARS outbreak in the region.
