  • YILAI BHD reported a slightly lower pre-tax profit of RM17.352mil for the half year ended June 30, 2005 from RM18.582mil registered in the same period of 2004. 

    The profit was achieved over a reduced revenue of RM56.9mil against RM65.156mil previously. – Bernama 

  • MALAYSIA STEEL WORKS (KL) BHD (Masteel) has entered into a sale and purchase agreement with Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche SpA of Italy in respect to the provision of oxygen technology, furnace upgrading, Supersonic Lancing System (SLS) and technical knowhow at a total cost of RM8.5mil. 

    This will be financed by the proceeds from the initial public offering of RM1.5mil and the balance of RM7mil by internally generated funds and borrowings. 

    With cost of production reduced by 5% and production capacity increasing by 10%, Masteel will be on target to achieve its forecast profit of RM25.6mil or earnings per share of 19.26 sen for the year ending Dec 31, 2005. – Bernama 

  • OILPALMWORLD SDN BHD announced the appointment of Tan Sri Dr Abdullah Mohd Tahir as its chairman and M.R. Chandran as independent non-executive director of the board with effect from today. 

    Dr Abdullah, 58, was the secretary-general of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities from 2000 to 2005 while Chandran was instrumental in establishing the Malaysian Palm Oil Association and became its first chief executive. – Bernama 

  • ISYODA CORP BHD'S wholly-owned subsidiary ICB Waterways (Wu-Xin) Sdn Bhd is acquiring a 49% equity interest in Joye International Co Ltd (JoyeHK) from Joyport Group Ltd for RM6.2mil.  

    In a statement to Bursa Malaysia, Isyoda said JoyeHK has 70% interest in De Qing Wu-Xin Line Water Canal Operation Co Ltd. It said the acquisition and additional equity subscription of 42.9 million yuan would result in ICB Waterways having a 34.3% effective interest in De Qing Wu-Xin. 

    De Qing Wu-Xin has been awarded a concession by the Zhejiang Provincial Development and Reform Commission to collect and conduct toll operation, including self-funding, of the reconstruction of the Wu-Xin Line water canal and its maintenance for a period of 30 years, Isyoda added. – AFX
