TAIPEI, Taiwan: The labor union of Taiwan's state-controlled telecommunication firm on Thursday called off a scheduled strike after the government put off a plan to sell part of the company's shares in the United States.
Chunghwa Telecom's labor union had planned a strike on Friday to protest the government's privatization plan that it fears could lead to large-scale worker layoffs. Union leaders also said they fear control of the company would shift to large conglomerates under the plan.
