  • The earnings of Concrete Engineering Products Bhd (Cepco) should be substantial on the company's expectations to secure more orders for its concrete telecommunications poles from Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM), an analyst report said. The company had last year secured a RM5mil contract to supply between 15,000 and 20,000 poles to TM. The contract will contribute positively towards Cepco's earnings for financial year ending Aug 31, 2005, the report said. Cepco has 70% share of the country's concrete pole market. For the second quarter ended Feb 28, the company recorded a net profit of RM3.9mil on revenue of RM22.2mil.

  • ANALYSTS are positive over the prospects of long-term profits for glove manufacturer Supermax Corp Bhd on the back of further acquisitions and increased production. In a filing to Bursa Malaysia last week, Supermax said it intended to seek a mandate from shareholders to increase its total equity interest in Seal Polymer Industries Bhd. It already holds 17% in Seal Polymer and 12.9% in APL Industries Bhd (APLI). The company is looking at a combined production capacity of 23.3 billion pieces of gloves by end of next year, an increase from its expected combined production for this year, which is 21.54 billion pieces of gloves.

  • A RECENT report stated that Pos Malaysia and Services Holdings Bhd (PSH) had allocated RM200mil over the next two years to improve its information, communications and technology systems as well as upgrade its post offices nationwide. An analyst said he was optimistic on the company’s performance for this year. For the first quarter ended March 31, PSH posted a higher pre-tax profit of RM74.5mil compared with RM39.6mil a year ago. Sales improved to RM196.6mil from RM175.3mil previously. The better profit was due to a gain from the disposal of an associate company.

  • ON an upward trend since late last week, the share price of Ruby Quest may continue to sustain its performance, boosted by five to ten new projects this year, valued between RM30mil and RM50mil, and a growing biotechnology industry in the country, according to an analyst. The manufacturer and integrator of air, liquid and gaseous filtration systems for various industries, including biotechnology, also has plans to expand its operations to China and the Middle-East over the next three years. Last year, Ruby Quest posted a net profit of RM2.7mil on revenue of RM20mil.

  • MECHANICAL and electrical engineering firm PJI Holdings Bhd should benefit from restored market confidence and a new project from its unit, said an analyst. According to a wire report last month, the company said its unit PJ Indah Sdn Bhd had been awarded a RM47mil project to undertake mechanical and electrical works for the proposed 153-bed Nasser bin Ahmad Hospital in Doha, Qatar. The project is expected to contribute positively to the group's earnings for the financial years ending June 30, 2006 and June 30, 2007. PJI :  [Stock Watch]  [News]
